Looking for a new opportunity in 2010?
National Glass Centre in Sunderland is looking for new Friends and Committee Members to help support the work of the organisation.
The Friends of NGC was originally established in 1998 to bring together people who share a keen interest and appreciation of National Glass Centre and its activities. As we enter a new year and a new decade NGC is looking to recruit more Friends to help support these activities and take the organisation forward.
Support is provided in a variety of ways: through volunteer work, activities, sponsorship, feedback, events organisation, subscription fees and most importantly, via enthusiasm for NGC. Friends are currently fundraising for the Sunderland Room at NGC, which is being redeveloped to tell the story and history of Sunderland for all the community to see.
Becoming a Friend also holds a number of benefits to the individual. Membership includes: discounts in the shop, café/restaurant, some courses and workshops, and invitations to previews, talks, events and subscription to the Friends quarterly newsletter. More than that, being a Friend offers personal benefits: the chance to make new friends and to be involved with a unique cultural organisation here in the North East.
Friends of NGC can also stand for a position on the Friends Committee. The Committee represents the Friends group as a whole, arranging a series of talks, visits and trips for members whilst also supporting the work of NGC.
The Committee are currently looking to recruit a Chair and Secretary. These roles provide an excellent opportunity to become an integral part of the Committee and practically support the work of NGC and its Friends. Friends’ committee meetings take place once a month at NGC.
Alison Cleland, Curator of Education and Audience Development, who works with the Friends Committee says “the support of Friends of National Glass Centre is invaluable to us; they support our work in all areas from volunteering to fundraising. We’re looking forward to a brilliant year ahead and look forward to welcoming new members onto the Committee”
If you are interested in becoming a Friend or standing for a Committee position then please contact 0191 515 5555 or call in to NGC. Annual membership is £20 for individuals, £35 for joint membership, and £15 for concessions.
