Thomas Stollar : 168 Hours
Thomas Stollar has recently completed his PhD working at National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland. Thomas works in ceramics and in this piece each of the one hundred and sixty-eight tiles represents one hour within a full week. The colours are used as a code showing how time was spent by the artist during the space of a week, for example, black shows hours spent sleeping and green relates to the time spent making new work. The tiles and colours turn personal experience into abstract and depersonalised coded data.
Thomas Stollar states:
‘The work presents the capturing of personal experiences as a subtle remark upon the difficulty that arises in attempting to understand the complexity of experiences that occur within such moments and their interconnections between individual and environment.'
