Katya Filmus

I am an Israeli artist based in the UK working primarily in kiln cast glass.

I earned a ‘qualified art instructor’ diploma in 1998, a BFA in Ceramics and Glass from the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Israel (2002) specialising in sculpture, and an MA in Glass from the University of Sunderland. I was awarded extended residencies in the USA and Scotland.
I established my first studio in a Jerusalem based glass factory in 2002 where I developed product ranges for the factory alongside my sculptural work. I lectured at Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, and at Shenkar Collage for Engineering and Design in Israel.
Now based at National Glass Centre in Sunderland, I have worked on a number of major projects for  National Glass Centre, including the production of a series of large cast stag heads for Glenfiddich that are in airports worldwide. My most recent public commission is a series of 27 cast wall panels for the North East Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle. My work is in many private and public collections, including the Tyne & Wear Museums in the UK and Eretz Israel Museum in Israel.
