National Glass Centre's Vision and Objectives

Vision

Our vision is to be a centre of national excellence supporting the production, education, presentation and enjoyment of contemporary glass - a centre with local impact and international reach, building on the unique heritage of Sunderland.

Objectives

To achieve this vision we have set the following objectives:

1. To create a glass production centre of international repute with the highest quality staff, facilities and resources promoting enterprise, knowledge transfer and projects, supporting artists and practitioners and developing creative industries.

2. To present an ambitious programme of exhibitions, events and creative projects to recognise the history of glass, as well as it's future exploitation in arts, science and technology.

3. To collaboratively undertake, promote and disseminate world-leading research with impact in glass (and ceramics).

4. To extend Sunderland's reputation as a world-class centre of excellence in the teaching of glass.

5. To engage communities and widen the educational route for individuals, schools and leisure groups through to BA, MA, PhD and professional practice.

6. To be known as a leading North East venue and unique visitor attraction.

7. To establish the NGC Shop as the key national outlet for the promotion and sale of UK glass.

8. To establish Throwingstones Cafe & Restaurant as a key dining destination for local people and visitors to the region, and the National Glass Centre as one of the best conferencing and events venues in the region.

9. To increase earned income, attract commercial activity, funding for projects and inward investment to maximise the impact and value of the National Glass Centre and to underpin its vision.
